ABOUT ME

Welcome! I'm Nina Skilbeck, a passionate textile artist and dedicated teacher based in Kingswinford, West Midlands. Since 2010, I've been inspiring students in Design and Technology, weaving creativity and innovation into every lesson. But my journey into the world of textiles began long before that.

After spending years in the corporate sphere, I decided to follow my heart into the realm of art and education. Armed with a Batchelor of Arts (Hons) in Interior Design, a P.G.C.E teaching qualification, and a Master of Arts in Music, I found my true calling in the tactile beauty of textile art. Free machine embroidery has, until recently, been my go-to, allowing me to craft pieces that resonate personally with both myself and their recipients.

Whilst studying for my second master’s degree in Arts, Health, and Wellbeing at the University of South Wales, I stumbled upon the soothing world of felting. Working with natural materials, I discovered that the process was as therapeutic as it was creative. It wasn't about producing a perfect piece but about immersing oneself in the sensory experience. This revelation led me to design workshops centred around the calming and interactive benefits of working with felt, offering others a chance to find tranquillity amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Outside the studio and classroom, music plays a significant role in my life. Whether I'm playing woodwind instruments semi-professionally or singing with a choir, melodies are a constant companion.
